The Boy in Striped Pajamas By:John Boyne

"The Boy in Striped Pajamas Review"

By: Izabella Orozco

The Boy in Striped Pajamas is a tragic but touching tale that takes place during the Holocaust starring two boys named Bruno and Shmuel. Bruno is the son of a Nazi soldier who is curious to explore his new environment after moving to Aushwitz with his family. His father is appointed Commandant of the Aushwitz concentration camp. Shmuel is a Jewish boy who has been taken into the Aushwitz concentration camp. Curious Bruno goes exploring and meets Shmuel, who was sitting cross legged on the other side of the fence. Shortly after meeting they become great friends and tell each other about their lives on their side of the fence. Bruno later learns that he needs to move again and Shmuel ask Bruno to help him find his dad, Bruno agrees to do so the day before he moves. The day before he moves Shmuel brings him the clothing and Bruno disguises himself as a Jewish prisoner. They look around and can't find any clues as to what had happened to him. Nobody knew what happened to them after that, all they found was a pile of Bruno's cloths next to a small hole under the fence. This book is a very interesting book because it puts you in to one child's mind who is free and doesn't understand what was happening to the people on the other side. It also puts you in the mind of another child who is Jewish and is in a concentration camp. I recommend this book to older readers because this book has many references to the Holocaust and is very tragic.
