Tiger Eyes

Deanna Lansiquot     Summer reading

This book is about a girl named Davey who's dad died in a car accident and then her family, mother and brother, had to move to New Mexico and in New Mexico Davey is befriended by a guy who helps her overcome her fears with the nickname of tiger eyes, and while overcoming her fear she falls in love with him and he feels the same way, and they share unforgettable moments together, from climbing to the top of mountains and visiting caves together to finding love. And while this love journey is going on Davey volunteers at a Hospital and nurses an old man that is very nice and caring and turns out to be Wolf, Davey's lover's grandfather with only days to live Later on in the story Wolf's Grandfather died and he, Davey, and all of his family was very upset but they overcome the dispiritedness and sorrow and they realize from Davey's dad's death and Wolf's Grandfather's death that life's short and you only live once so enjoy it the best you can!

This book teaches a lesson that is Life is short so enjoy it while it last, and I think many people can learn from this and I would recommend this book to everyone whose loved ones died and they just went totally shut off after and locked themselves in their house or even room and let someone's death ruin the rest of their life forever, they shut people out of their life, they never loved, like, cared, they just feared... Everything, Everyone.

The Fault in Our Stars

Deanna Lansiquot    Summer Reading

The Fault In Our Stars is about a girl named Hazel who is a lung cancer survivor who goes to a support group from feeling depressed and meets a boy who one day went to the Support Group because of his friend Isaac who was there, and his name is Augustus. They met and after a few "dates", phone calls, and visits to each other's houses, finally figured each other out. So Hazel introduces a book to Augustus called an Imperial Affliction and this book had no ending and leaves the reader, Hazel, curious. Anyways, she sent e-mails to get answers about the book and would do anything to find out what happens next in the book but never could get to him, and thanks to Augustus, that finally changes. He asked the "genies" aka the people who grant your death wishes, to go to Amsterdam and the genies just happened to grant his wish. So he figures it wouldn't make sense to get answers from the author of the the book Hazel introduced him to, without the actually person who introduced him to the book herself. So after a few confirmations Hazel was able to go, and from there it was history. Hazel Grace and Augustus fell in love and there were ups and downs throughout but they always stayed strong!

This book is similar to The Running Dream, in the way that both Hazel and Jessica think they are going to loose their life but both have a Destiny and is willing to fulfill it. Hazel wanted to meet the author and get answers to what happened in her favorite book, but she has lung cancer and has to carry stuff around her and being on a plane can be a big risk for her lungs and breathing, and Jessica wants to run but, she got in a car accident and needs crutches and a prosthetic leg.

Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life by Wendy Mass

Frances Hurtado
September 8th, 2015
This summer I read Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life by Wendy Mass.  I thought this was a good book overall, but there were many parts that were off-topic and boring. This book is about two best friends, Jeremy and Lizzy.  A month before Jeremy turns thirteen, he receives a box with the words “The Meaning of Life: For Jeremy Fink to open on his 13th Birthday,” engraved at the top. Jeremy knows it was his father who prepared this box for him.  His dad had died when Jeremy was eight, and this box was important to Jeremy. Determined, Jeremy and Lizzy set off on an adventure to try to find the keys for the complex, locked box. The search includes visiting a locksmith, a flea market, and breaking into an office.  The search gets sidetracked when the two get into a little bit of trouble and have to serve community service.  They think that the community service is a waste of their summer, but little do they know that it was steering them even closer to finding the answer to the meaning of life.
As I was reading this book, I realized that the theme of friendship was a common thread through Wendy Mass novels.  The last book I read by Wendy Mass was Leap Day.  This book was about the main characters 16th birthday and how she spent that day with her friends.  Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life was similar in a way because in the book he spends the days leading up to his birthday with his friend Lizzy at his side the entire book.  Both have good friends surrounding the main character during important moments of their lives.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys books with science or anyone who really enjoys philosophy and how different people answer the same question in different ways.

If I Were You by Leslie Margolis

Frances Hurtado
September 8th, 2015

This summer I read If I Were You by Leslie Margolis.  This book is about two best friends, Katie and Melody who both envy each other's lives.  So on the last day of the summer, on the way to the beach they both wished for the same thing at the exact same time, to start the summer over as each other. And that is exactly what happened.  At first, they really enjoy living as each other, in what they considered their ideal life.  But as the summer progresses, they realize they are happier as themselves.  Katie is lonely sitting in an empty house, and Melody is tired of having no time to herself.
I think a lot of people can relate to this book.  Sometimes people wish that they could live someone else's life because to them, it looks perfect.  One thing I have learned from this book is that in reality, no one's life is perfect, and you shouldn't assume that it is because of how it appears.  This is a perfect book summer fun book, and I recommend this book for those who like very fictional, cheesy types of books.

Comet in Moominland by Tove Jansson

by Maya Gatson

The book “Comet in Moominland” is about a family of Moomins (Moomintroll Moominmama and Moominpapa) and their friends.  When The Muskrat goes to the Moomin house where Moominmama, Moominpapa, Sniff and Moomintroll live to complain about the bridge, he stays at the Moomin house for a little while. The next day Moomintroll was talking to the Muskrat and found out that a comet was coming to hit earth. Moomintroll and Sniff set out to go to the observatory in the Lonely Mountains. On the way they meet Snufkin who never stays anywhere, Snork and the Snorkmaiden, who change color every time they get emotional, the Hemulen, who has a cousin who collects bugs and the mischievous silk monkey.  When they all go back to Moomin valley, they learn that The Muskrat sent word that a comet would be coming.  Everyone was going to get as far away possible from the comet.  Snork, Snorkmaiden, Sniff, the Hemulen, Moomin and Snufkin gather food and a lamp and set of for Sniff’s cave with Moominmama and Moominpapa.  When the comet comes the Moomins think it destroys the earth but it didn’t.  Instead it went off to another galaxy. The Moomins didn’t know so in the end they thought they were the only people on earth.
This book reminds me of Moomin Papa at Sea. This book is another book from the Moomintroll series. This is about how Moomintroll is displeased with Moomin valley. It is similar to Comet in Moomin land because he makes friends with a creature called the Groke that freezes every thing it touches. And he makes friends with the seahorses too.
I would recommend this book to someone who likes stories about fictional creatures and adventures because this book and series are full of them.

Discworld: Equal Rites By Terry Pratchett

Equal Rites is about a young girl Named Eskarina (Esk)is accidentally chosen as a wizard. In this book She has to overcome gender roles and stereotypes to become a wizard. She has to show that just because she's a girl it doesn't mean that she can't become a wizard.

This book is a great edition to the disk world universe and continues the tree of the series and is unique. This book is unlike any book I've read before, in a good way. It's detailed descriptions of magic and almost everything else help you truly visualize the disk world and it's Inhabitants.

I truly love Pratchett's writing style and recommend this book to anyone who wants to see something different.

Young Bond: By Royal Command By Charlie Higson

"By Royal Command" is about a younger James Bond and his adventures before he became the legend he is today. In the book it is bond's mission to stop a plot being planned by a cell of communists. With betrayal at every turn not knowing who to trust Bond navigates through a secret world of lies and deception. Even the communists may not be who they seem.

In an amazing book Charlie Higson Tell the story of James Bond's youth and it fully gives off the "Bond" feel. Like all of the Bond movies you don't need to read the previous book to understand what is going on in the story. Higson's book gives some insight into the history of the worlds favorite super spy.

In the end I would say that this book is great. it is good read for anyone who is a fan of the bond series.

Discworld: The Color of Magic By Terry Pratchett

The color of magic is about an old wizard on Diskworld, a flat circular planet resting on four Giant elephants riding on a giant turtle (The Great A'tuin) swimming through the cosmos.  the wizard, Rinceind who failed wizard school, (The Unseen University) so he doesn't know much magic. But he has a very powerful spell in his head. He meets a tourist to his city Ank-Morpork and they go on tons of adventures together across the Diskworld.

I enjoyed this book because it is full of strange humor and confusing yet intriguing plots. It follows the heroes journey but using an interesting and rarely explored method. It is an interesting exploration of literature and what one can do with writing.

All and All I enjoyed the color of magic and it's witty humor I would definitely encourage reading this book to anyone who likes fantasy and to have to think a bit while reading.

The land of stories 1: The wishing spell by Chris Colfer

THE WISHING SPELL

This book is about a pair of twins, Alex and Conner Bailey, who discover a land full of all the characters from their childhood, like snow white or prince charming. They discover that they are trapped there and there seems to be one possible way back to the real world: The wishing spell.

This is one of my favorite books of all time, the characters are releasable, well, not the wolf people or trolls, but some of the others are! I feel like Conner and Alex are real people, the they talk, act, or react. It's a great twist on fairy tails that has hooked me, making me want to read the other land of stories books!

Blackwell Pages 3: Thor's serpents

THOR'S SERPENTS

Thor's serpents is the third and final book in the Blackwell Pages trilogy, and it is my favorite of the three. Once again I recommend it to any Percy Jackson fans out there, and to anyone who likes fantasy or action books. It has plenty of characters to connect to, and the fights are super epic.

The story is really done getting defined, so the authors can do a lot more now. There are a lot of twists, and it has one of the most well written final battle I have ever read. It has a unsatisfying ending though, and I think they could have written a little more. Over all I give the series a god 9 out of 10, with only a few bad parts, so I recommend it to anyone looking for a book to read.

Life in Motion By Misty Copeland

Macy
9/8/15
Life in motion is the story of Misty Copeland's life, and how she came to be a dancer at ABT. Misty is a young girl who loves to dance and do gymnastics, and she is very good at both of them. Even though she's never taken a class and she doesn't know what ballet is. At thirteen Misty joins her school's "drill team," when the teacher sees her she is amazed at Misty's talent and tells Misty to join ballet at the boys and girls club. Even though Misty is talented, other things affect her. Her mother is constantly Marrying and Divorcing, and it has become a cycle. Some of them affect Misty and her siblings.
This book was enjoyable because of Misty's courage, she was able to push through adversity and become a princple dancer at ABT. Misty has been through so much more than many other ballerinas. Not only did she become a ballet dancer she became one of the best. She met her goal and now she lives her life doing something she loves. It was an inspiring book, and very sad and touching as well.

Escape From The Carnival

Escape From The Carnival

By: Dave Barry, and Ridley Pearson

In the book Escape From The Carnival a Princess of the Mollusk tribe named Little Scallop Little Scallop has two friends, Aqua, and Surf who are mermaids. One day Little Scallop, Aqua, and Surf go out past the reef were they weren't allowed to go. Well they were out there a Giant storm strikes for a few minutes and when it was over, the three of them were Stranded in the ocean and couldn't find there way back to the Lagoon. Out of nowhere a giant ship comes and catches Surf. Little Scallop and Aqua have to come up with a plan to save Surf.

The book Escape From The Carnival has a lot of adventures and Mystical Creatures. This book really connects to me because I love Mystical Creatures like Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, or Mermaids. This story also really connects to this other book that I read called Peter and the Starcatchers because some of the same mermaids that are in the book Escape From The Carnival are in the book Peter and the Starcatchers.

If you like book with adventure, Mystical Creatures, Pirates, And Giant Crocodiles then Escape From The Carnival is definitely the book for you!

The fault in our stars

The fault in our stars is a book about love and death. The main characters Hazel and Augustus are both cancer survivors. The book explains how these two meet and how their relationship with each other grows stronger. As the book continues it talks about how Hazel read a book and their was never a second one so she wnted to speak to the author of the book to see if he could tell her what happens to the main character's mother in that book. It took a while for  Augustus to take charge and take Hazel on a date. On that date Agustus explained to Hazel that he bought plane tickets for her, her mother, and him to go to Amsterdame and meet the author of the she had questions about. They were in Amsterdame for about a week. while they were there they were treated to a dinner. The second day of their visit they went to go see the author. While Hazel was at the authors house she got none of her questions answered because she was to busy arguing with the author because he turned out to be a real jerk. So then they went to some historic site to see the house of one of Amsterdames most famouse house. When they left from Amsterdame Augustus began to get sick so sick that he needed surgery on his stomach and neede a wheeelchair. About a week after the surgery Augustus was in the hospital again but this time he had died in his sleep. This is when Hazel had no heart because who she thought was the one for her was now in a better placethan were she was.

Marshfield Dreams By:Ralph Fletcher

"Marshfield Dreams Review"

By: Izabella Orozco

Marshfield Dreams is a memoir of the author Ralph Fletcher, this story takes you on an adventure in to the what seems to be innocent world of Ralph, but strange events start happening and Ralph starts to realized that his world is a lot bigger and much more dangerous then he thought it was. The main characters are Ralph and Jimmy, but there are other important characters such as his parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, and his friends. Ralph is the main character and the oldest of his siblings, giving him the responsibility of being a role model. Jimmy is his younger brother who isn't one for rules and loves exploring in the woods behind their house he is mostly responsible for the trouble they get in and plays very important roles in the book. Ralph lives with his family in Marshfield, Massachusetts.I recommend this book for kids of all ages. It is a very interesting and funny book.

Peter and the Starcatchers
By: Riddley pearson, and Dave Barry

In the story Peter and the Starcatchers a orphan named Peter and his friends got put on a ship. Well they were at sea, a fierce pirate known as Black Mustache took over the ship that peter was on in search of the greatest treasure known to man. Peter met a girl named Molly and Molly and peter worked together to get the treasure back from Black Stache and to a safe place were nobody can use the treasure for bad.

This book is full of adventures and mysteries and this book really connects to me because I love mysteries and adventures. Every chance I get to go on a adventure I will take it, even if its just stuff like riding bikes through central park or going to the grocery store.

If you like books with Adventures, Magic, and Pirates then Peter and the Starcatchers is definitely the book for you!

This Song Will Save Your LIfe by Leila Sales- Delilah

Delilah Bellamy
Summer Homework
September 1, 2015

At the beginning of summer vacation, I got stocked up on books. One of my many findings was "This Song Will Save Your Life" by Leila Sales. Elise Dembowski goes to a typical and cliche high-school. The "cool" people have their separate little "cool" groups and the "un-cool" people have their other little groups. There's everything in between as well. And then, there's Elise. She's the un-coolest of the un-cool, the one that even in Kindergarten was un-cool because she came to school every day with her oversized red sweater with tufts of yarn everywhere. In Kindergarten, everyone's supposed to be friend's with everyone. But as she would put it, Elise Dembowski was born to be unpopular. So the summer after Freshman year, she decides to do something about it. And so the readers join her on her mission to become cool. Over the summer she listens to all the new music that everyone listened to, goes shopping for the stylish clothes, hoping to finally make some close friends. This fails drastically. Soon though, Elise wanders upon a secret underground club where she meets three new friends. Most importantly, she learns about her newfound love for DJing. Seems like Elise Dembowski is finally figuring out where she belongs.
Elise's story really seems similar to some teenagers today. At first her thoughts toward herself are really negative but eventually she learns that everyone has a place that you can really be you. Elise also discovers all kinds of new things about herself including possible love and that it is in fact plausible that people may be able to appreciate her and her talent. I find it interesting that Elise would have never even thought to be a DJ if she hadn't found the club. While taking over for a little while when the real DJ was doing something, it allowed her to open a whole new window. "This Song Will Save Your Life" is a very inspiring book that high school students, especially if they feel alone, would enjoy and learn something from.

Goodbye Stranger by Rebecca Stead

Frances Hurtado
September 7th, 2015

This summer I read Goodbye Stranger by Rebecca Stead. This is the best book by far that I have read in a while. This book is about three best friends, Bridge, Tabitha, and Emily. Bridge, the main character, roller-skated into traffic when she was eight.
The book takes place in New York, and this setting is extremely important because of how much these characters move from place to place throughout the book.   It’s seventh grade and everything starts to change. No more doodle creatures in the corner of their homework, and the three start getting into their own thing.  Bridge meets a boy in Tech Crew named Sherm who she starts to hang out with.  Tabitha gets involved with the Human Rights Club, and Emily is on the soccer team and starts to text a boy named Patrick. When an inappropriate photo of Emily is sent around school, Bridge and Tabitha are there to support her.  This book really shows how these three best friends stuck together trying hard not to fight through a very difficult year.
I found this book similar in a way to the book Leap Day by Wendy Mass.  This is because in that book, there were four best friends who went through a birthday filled with special activities.  This book is similar, although the events in Goodbye Stranger are not as cheer-filled and are real-life issues people deal with.  Like Leap Day, Goodbye Stranger also has chapters with alternate perspectives including one from a girl who you do not know the true identity of until the end of the book.
I recommend this book specifically for those that are in middle school, although I believe anyone over the age of ten could enjoy this book.  I also recommend this book for those who love realistic fiction.

Lunch Money by Andrew Clements

Samaiya Bailey
9/7/15

Another book I read this summer is "Lunch Money".  It's about a boy named Greg Kenton who loved money and had an obsession with making it. His mom would give him an allowance every Friday for doing his chores, and he also earned  a little more than $2 to do his older brothers' chores when they didn't do them or just being plain old. When he was 7 or 8 years old, Greg thought of other ways to make money by shining his dad's and mom's dress shoes. He earned an extra fifty cents every time he did that.
One day he decided on another way to make money. A lemonade stand. He looked across the street and saw his neighbor Maura doing the same thing. He was furious, so he marched across the street and told her he thought she was copying his idea. Maura decided to find a different way to make money besides the lemonade stand and Greg thought the same. The next day he saw Maura selling pot holders, but Greg had a better idea than that. He decided to sell comic books since he loved reading them so much and figured other kids would enjoy reading them as much as he did.
Eventually, Greg and Maura partnered up and started a business called the Chunky Comics Club since they both enjoyed writing and illustrating comic books of their own. They even held after school workshops about how to make minicomics and mini-picture books. Greg and Maura did so well that they made $923.38 in sales by the end of the school year and were able to make a $1,421 donation to their Intermediate school library.Even though it started out as Greg just wanting to find new ways to make money for himself, he could not believe how good it made him feel to give that money away. I would recommend this book to my younger sister because it was a good lesson that teamwork makes a dream work. What began as I competition between two friends turned into a successful partnership. I think that if my sister and I were to team up with an awesome idea like Greg and Maura's it would be amazing.

Dragonbreath Curse of the were-wiener

                                                                           Dragonbreath
                                                                            By Ursula Vernon

I just finished reading Dragonbreath curse of the were-wiener  by Ursula Vernon. I loved this book because it was funny and it had a lot of action. The two main characters Danny and Wendell get into trouble often. for example in book 2 they got attacked by ninja frogs. This book takes place in their school cafeteria and in the forest. The lesson of the story is that when you work together it is a lot easier than two people doing their own thing. they new each other since they were little kids. They went to the same school and are basically brothers.

I connected with this book because I do things that I am not supposed to and I get in trouble. Also I have a friend that I knew since I was one year old. His name was Leo. He was born in Brazil but moved into my old building so we became friends. Then lived here for 9 years and his parents got divorced. Leo moved back to Brazil with his mom. He comes to visit his dad 3 times a year. Leo might move back in August 2016. Leo likes New York way better than Brazil because he said the people are way nicer and all his friends do is play soccer and Leo dose not like soccer. Me and Leo get along well.

I can connect Dragonbreath to my favorite tv show named Kenan and Kel. This show came out in 1998 and is about two teenage boys Kenan and Kel two best friends getting into trouble every show. It reminds me of Dragonbreath because Danny and Wendell get in trouble every book.

I recommend Dragonbreath to people who love action, comedy and friendships. I also recommend Kenan and Kel to people love comedy and friendship.

The Horse and His Boy by C.S.Lewis

By Maya Gatson

The Horse and His Boy is part of the Narnia series and is about a talking horse named Bree from Narnia and a peasant boy named Shasta that lived with a poor fisherman who he called father.  One night when a tarkan, aka prince, comes to stay the night, Shasta has to sleep out side with the horse.  He over hears the fisherman talking to the tarkan about selling him into slavery.  Soon after that he finds out the horse can talk and runs away to Narnia with Bree.  In their first adventure Bree and Shasta meet Hwin and Aravis while getting chased by lions. In their second adventure, they are crossing a dessert to get to Narnia and Archenland to tell king Lune to get prepared for war.  In their third adventure Shasta finds out that he is king Lune’s long lost son.
This book reminds me of the show Switched at Birth because Shasta doesn’t know who his father is till the end of the story.  In switched at birth it’s the same thing except there were two girls that are living in the wrong families and were switched at birth. They find out because one of the girls did a blood test at school and found out her blood type didn’t match her parents.

I would recommend this book to someone that likes the Narnia series and someone that likes adventure stories because it is a really intriguing story and tells about how Shasta’s struggle leads to his victory.

The Scorch Trials by James Dashner.

This summer I read a book called "The Scorch Trials" by James Dashner. This is the second book in the Maze Runner series. This book is very good! Because the characters are VERY likable, and there is never a dull moment. This book is the Phase 2 of the tests just like in the maze runner and in this phase they meet some new characters. 1 Main reason why I loved this book so much was how much action was in it. Like I said before there was never a dull moment! There were also a lot of cliff hangers, like were they going to die? Or "Whats that noise?" Those are some reasons why I loved the book.

This book just like the maze runner did made me think even more. This book took in tons of different themes, I felt it was apocalyptic, and adventure, action. Tons more! This made me want to read the book! I can't name the feeling I felt when I finished the book, I went right to looking for the book 3!

One connection I had to the book is that since they were out in the sun almost all day, and in the sand it reminded me of being at the beach on a hot sunny day. Another connection I made to the book someone who I knew had just died but I did not know them well, and that happened a lot to Thomas in the book because he didn't know everyone very well. I recommend this book to people who read the maze runner and enjoyed it. I also recommend this book to people who like adventures and a lot of action.

Leap Day by Wendy Mass

Frances Hurtado
September 6, 2015

This summer I read Leap Day by Wendy Mass. This book is about the main character, Josie Taylor’s 16th birthday.  Josie was born on Leap Day, which means her birthday only comes around every four years. The story takes place in Orlando, Florida, and is about all the different events that happen on her birthday.  These events include taking a driver’s test, trying out for a school play, going on a scavenger hunt, and celebrating Josie’s birthday with an initiation at the lake.  Josie participates in these events with her three good friends, and this book really shows how important friendship can be.  Each chapter alternates perspectives from Josie’s perspective to the perspective of the people around her.  Josie thinks that she knows what everyone else is thinking, but she is wrong.
As the reader, I found myself also assuming things about the characters in the story.  I realized that you can’t assume you know what other people are thinking.  I felt a connection to the friendships in this novel.  Just like Josie and her friends, I am lucky enough to have close friends that I can trust and rely on.  I recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a story that contains strong friendships between girls, or people who love hearing multiple perspectives in a book.

Flying Solo by Ralph Fletcher

Samaiya Bailey
9/6/15

"Flying Solo" is about a 6th grade class, that is left unsupervised when their teacher, Mr.Fabiano is absent and the substitute for the class never showed up. The whole class, Rachel, Bastian,  Jessica, Sean, and the rest of class 6-238 wanted to prove that they can run the class themselves and not letting any teacher know that they are teacher-less for a day.
Throughout the day, they did everything but classwork. Some of them knew it was a bad idea but most of them thought it would be fine as long as know one knew. During lunch, they told some of their friends, they thought it was a bad idea too. When they got back to class it was Math class, still doing nothing and playing around, and some were reading. After that, they wanted to say some words about Bastian, since he was moving to Hawii. It was sad for the other students to see him go away and then thought about next year, they weren't going to see him.
After that they went to their assembly in the auditorium and the teachers and staff waited for them to calm down, one of the teachers were wondering were class 6-238 teacher. The teacher asked Karen, one of the students in Mr.Fabiano's class. She was hesitating and didn't know what to say, she had no choice, but to say it. Every teacher was surprised in the auditorium. Soon Mr.Fabiano found out what happened and the students parents did too. I would recommend this book to any student (s) that find themselves in this similar situation in any grade.

The Lost Hero

One book I read this summer is The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan. The three main characters are Jason, Piper, and Leo. They all go to a school for bad kids. A school field trip to the Grand Canyon is interrupted by storm spirits who they defeat and get transported to Camp Half Blood. When they arrive at Camp Half Blood they figure out they are related to gods. Camp Half Blood is a camp where half mortal half god adults and kids are safe from monsters.
This book relates to The Red Pyramid because the two kids there are also related to gods. in both books the kids save the world. Anyone who loves fantasy and a book full of action will like this book.

Matched by Ally Condie (Gabriel H.)

I read Matched by Ally Condie, the first book in a trilogy. This book is about how a girl Cassia lives in a dystopian world in the future made to look utopian, but no one makes their own choices or creates anything. Cassia wants to choose between two boys to marry, but she can only have one, she also wants to write poetry she can keep which is prohibited. She and a rule breaker named Ky slowly fight against it, and Cassia begins to realize the dark side of her society.
This book reminds me of a repetitive sort of genre about realizing the dystopian parts of a country or society, except they add a love story twist. The books that come to mind are Hunger Games because they also divide the society into different parts and their evil side is placing people in to a killing game. The Divergent series because they also divide a nation in to different people and their evil side is they don't want anybody who is independent and not in a group. The Giver because the government also doesn't want people to know much about the past, and their evil side is how they don't want people to feel any emotions ever.  There are so many more examples I could name, it's a constant theme.
I recommend this book to lovers of dystopian novels, love stories, wanting a big series that will last you a few months, or you just feel like reading a book I recommend because I'm a genius, read this one. :)

This Book Is Not Good For You, By Pseudonymous Bosh

This Book Is Not Good For You
By Pseudonymous Bosh

Book Report By Declan Mcqueeney

"This Book Is Not Good For You" is an amazing third book in the Secret Series by Pseudonymous Bosh. In the book, three kids who are part of a hundred year old society team up against a one- eyed chef who will not stop at any cost to create the perfect chocolate, An army of gloved alchemists, and a chocolate that endowns the eater with the minds of their ancestors.
The Secret Series is written very similarly to The Mysterious Benedict Society. Anyone who loves mystery- fantasy would love this series.

Nimona by Noelle Stevenson (Gabriel H.)

I just read a graphic novel, Nimona by Noelle Stevenson that portrayed a common good versus evil story, with a twist that the "bad guy" is good. One day a shape shifting girl named Nimona steps in to the evil Lord Ballister Blackheart's lab because she wants to be a villain too. When the king and former friend of Blackheart, Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin shows up in Blackheart's lab with his goons and Nimona kills all but Goldenloin, it proves she is a killer unlike Blackheart who is too afraid to kill. Nimona finds evidence that Blackheart decodes that proves that his enemy institute, the Institute of Law and Heroics, has been harvesting the most rare and deadliest plant called Jaderoot. Blackheart and Nimona poison the food everywhere themselves with a poison that will hurt but not kill so it seems that it's from the Jaderoot infesting the crop so the villagers will suspect the institute of having Jaderoot. The Institutes leader wants Nimona and Blackheart dead, so they try to capture Nimona to harness her powers, but she escapes on a rampage until Blackheart subdues her and puts her back to her original form.
This book connects to real life because it shows how not every villain is bad, and not every person on the "good" side is completely good. This reminds me of all the racism going on with Michael Brown and others, because I want to tell the policemen to stop being so racist, but also to the protesters to start seeing the blurred lines. Just because some police stations and officers are so racist does not mean ALL the police are racist. Just like because the institution is evil doesn't mean Goldenloin is evil.
I would reccomend this book to someone who is in need of a book to read quickly. It's an extremly quick read and has a confusing ending but is still heartfelt and interesting. Looking for a comic book that will leave you thinking? Not this one. Looking for a comic book with a basic story and you're in need of a book, yeah this is the one. This is also a good book if you need to finish your summer homework and you pass by a bookstore and grab a graphic novel quick. :)
