Al Capone Does My Shirts By Gennifer Choldenko

Al Capone Does My Shirts by Gennifer Cholenko is a historical fiction book. It shows what life would be like if you were a kid living on Alcatraz Island in the 1930s, but not because you were in jail there. Many people might not know this, but there were apartments that you could live in on Alcatraz.  People lived there because their husbands worked in the Alcatraz jail and it was much cheaper to live there.
The main character's name is Moose Flanagan.  His family moves to Alcatraz because his dad has a job working at the jail.  Moose meets a girl named Piper who also lives on the Island and they go to the same school that is off the Island.  Piper is nothing but trouble and she even gets Moose into trouble.  You will have to read to find out the details.
Moose has a sister named Natalie who is Autistic and their mom really wants her to get into a special school where she will supposedly be "cured."  Moose has to take care of Natalie on Alcatraz and they run into some adventures and problems.
I recommend this book to people who like historical fiction and stories about families.  You can learn more about Alcatraz and what it was like to live on the Island in the 1930s.  It was a fun book to read.
